Services

Not sure what type of editing you need for your book? Here’s how I can help you:

Line Editing

Sometimes called substantive editing, this service focuses on the sentence level. With a line edit, I’ll suggest changes to help your writing flow better, to improve clarity, and to optimize pacing.

This service is best for:

New writers who have gotten a developmental edit but feel like the writing is still clunky.

Seasoned writers who have gotten reviews about things being unclear or issues with the pacing even after a developmental edit.

Cost: $0.015-$0.025 per word

General Timeline: Usually takes around 3-5 weeks depending on the length and condition of the manuscript.

Copyediting

This is sometimes confused with the term proofreading, but the two are actually quite different. Copyediting (sometimes spelled copy editing) focuses on the nitty-gritty details. With a copyedit, I’ll focus on the spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word choice.

This service is best for:

Writers who have gotten a developmental edit and line edit. You’ve already done the hard work of cleaning up the story line and the wording. Now you just need someone to catch the small stuff.

Cost: $0.01-$0.02 per word

General Timeline: Usually takes around 2-4 weeks depending on the length and condition of the manuscript.

Proofreading

This happens after the manuscript has been typeset. A proofread looks at most of the same things as a copyedit (grammar, spelling, punctuation), but it also looks at the formatting (widows/orphans, spacing, page numbers, etc.).

This service is best for:

Writers who have had their manuscript edited and formatted. This is the last line of defense to catch any last errors and fix formatting issues before the book is published.

Cost: $0.01-$0.02 per word

General Timeline: Usually takes around 2-3 weeks depending on the length and condition of the manuscript.

I specialize in women’s fiction, and middle grade and YA fantasy and dystopian, but I’ve worked on many different genres, from memoir, to self-help, to contemporary, and so on.
