Hello! I’m Aubrey, and I’m the editor here at Ravishing Revisions. Here’s a little about me:

My Approach
I know it can be difficult to send your hard work to someone who tells you everything that’s wrong with it. So when I’m editing your story, I aim for the “Goldilocks edit”: it’s not too harsh or laissez-faire. I strive to be kind while telling you what mistakes to fix, and I’ll even point out places where I feel you’ve done exceptionally well.
Your voice trumps all, so even though I’m here because of my expert knowledge of the rules, I recognize that sometimes the rules can be bent to better serve your voice or even to evoke different emotions within your readers.
My goal is for your writing to shine and speak straight to your readers’ hearts, so when you hire me, you can rest assured that I’ll send it back polished and ready for publication with your unique voice intact.

My Education
I first began training to be an editor through the editing and publishing minor at Brigham Young University. My courses there went over every level of editing, including developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. I even took an introductory course to book design so that I would understand how designers work when I proofread.
Later, I received a master’s in creative writing with an emphasis in publishing, where I learned under Kevin J. Anderson and Allyson Longueira. During the program, I helped publish a brand new anthology with over thirty short stories, and I republished an out-of-copyright novel, complete with a new foreword and cover. Each process gave me hands-on experience with the ins and outs of traditional publishing and indie or self-publishing.
During my master’s I also took a course from Allyson Longueira on editing for fiction, where we discussed finding the balance between following the rules and allowing the voice to shine through.
I continue to further my education in editing every year through courses from the Editorial Freelancers Association and attending writer’s conferences.

My Bio
I’ve loved reading from a very young age, and it was rare to see me without a book in my hands. As I’ve gotten older, my love for reading hasn’t diminished at all, and it’s grown to a love for helping others create those stories.
I’ve edited for people internationally and locally, from fantasy novels, to contemporary novels, to memoirs, to technical documents, to textbook manuscripts. And I have loved every kind of editing I’ve come across.
When I’m not editing or reading, I’m crafting (usually crochet or knitting), baking, hanging out with my husband and children, or working on my own writing.
I look forward to hearing more about your work and helping your manuscript shine!
